IT is time to get drastic. John Terry, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, David James, come on in your time is up.

The World Cup shambles was the final straw for me regarding England’s so-called golden generation.

The only thing golden about them is the bling they wear.

We need this lot to retire after years of continual failure with the national team and we need to start bringing through youngsters ready for a real assault – Phil Jones springs to mind.

I know people will say Phil is nowhere near ready for the England senior team at the moment, after all he has only played a handful of Premier League games for Blackburn Rovers.

They are probably right as well but isn’t it time we sacrificed a few results for England to actually build a team who could compete at the highest level.

It is scary. What centre backs are there to select from once you rule out the geriatrics that are Rio Ferdinand, Terry, and Jamie Carragher?

Matthew Upson? Not good enough. Then there is a huge gap until you look at the upcoming players like Ryan Shawcross, Chris Smalling and Phil.

It may hurt us for a few years but let's get them ready for England.

It is quite scary when you look at the under 19 team Jones is part of.

He is the most experienced Premier League player in the squad.

That shows how bad off we are for young talent in the country.

That is why players like Jones are so important for England.
