CHRIS Turner says he is committed to getting his Accrington Stanley career back on track.

Turner was one of the rising stars of the Stanley team 12 months ago, turning down interest from elsewhere to sign a new two-year deal, but made only 11 league starts during the 2009/10 campaign.

A four-month lay-off with an ankle injury played a major part but, although he started the last three games of the season and scored on the last day at Cheltenham, the winger was a substitute for much of the campaign.

That left some supporters fearing Turner may seek a move away from the club but the 19-year-old insists he is determined to fight for a place at Stanley.

“It was a stop-start season,” he said.

“At the start of the season I worked my way in and got a few games on the bounce, then I did my ligaments in my ankle, which set me back.

“When I came back the manager spoke to me and said he couldn’t really drop anyone with the way they had been playing.

“It was just frustrating because I knew I could do it, it was getting that chance to prove it. But I got it and I’m grateful for that.

“It’s massive for me to be a regular again, so hopefully I can have a really good pre-season and get myself fresh.”

Stanley are being linked with 19-year-old former Coventry centre back Curtis Wynter and Exodus Geogaghon, the Peterborough defender currently attracting interest from a number of clubs.
