ROBBIE Blake has today been reunited with former Burnley boss Owen Coyle, after signing a one-year deal with Bolton Wanderers.

The 34-year-old is the first of Coyle's old charges to make the controversial switch to the Reebok Stadium since the Scot quit Turf Moor in January.

Blake had been offered the chance to extend his second spell with the Clarets by a further two years at the end of his three-year contract, but turned it down because he was disappointed with the terms of an incentive-based deal.

Burnley boss Brian Laws left the deal on the table, and it was rumoured that Blake could return, despite interest from Scottish Premier League side Hearts and neighbours Preston.

However, Coyle offered the Middlesbrough-born forward a Premier League lifeline and agreed terms last night.

Blake made history last season by scoring Burnley's first ever Premier League goal in their first home game.

His stunning volley - the 'goal of the season' winner - was enough to secure victory over Manchester United, their first top flight win after a 33-year absence.

The news will be a blow to Burnley fans, who had wanted the forward to stay and will be disappointed to hear he has gone to Bolton – a less than popular destination with Clarets supporters following Coyle’s shock move to the same club in January.

Blake had an excellent working relationship with Coyle during their time together at Burnley and the chance for one last crack at the Premier League was also likely to have been a key factor in his decision.

The veteran was out of contract at Turf Moor this summer and had turned down the offer of a new deal at Burnley, announcing his departure.

He cited his desire for a two-year contract and fears that he would no longer be a regular in the Clarets first team.
