Blackburn Rovers have joined a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Frederic Piquionne after deciding they can’t continue to wait before moving in the transfer market.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands the former Portsmouth loanee will arrive in England to sort out his future in the next couple of days with Blackburn Rovers one of several clubs monitoring his situation carefully.

Premier League new boys West Bromwich Albion are believed to be leading the chase and are set to offer £800,000 for the Lyon striker but West Ham, Fulham and Rovers are also seriously considering making their own moves.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has a number of other potential targets on his list though and is believed to be ready to step us his efforts to bring in a striker within the next couple of weeks.

Piquionne, 31, scored five goals in 34 Premier League appearances on loan at Portsmouth last season and is desperate to seal a permanent move into England’s top flight from Lyon this summer.

The ongoing takeover negotiations going on behind the scenes at Ewood Park have complicated matters over the last few weeks but Rovers are now believed to be ready to carry on with what they have got.

Any thoughts of waiting for a potential boost to their transfer kitty from a takeover are believed to fading with fears growing they could be left without a striker if they wait too much longer.

Indian businessman Saurin Shah remains in negotiations with regards to buying the club from the Walker Trust but, with the process of due diligence not even reached, the likelihood of completing any sale within the next month looks to be diminishing.

Allardyce therefore is set to be told to carry on with the limited funds available, believed to be in the region of £2.5million, as they look to bring in the one player they still need.

The Rovers boss has already stated he is more than happy with the squad at his disposal for the new campaign but, with just Jason Roberts and Nikola Kalinic as senior strikers, an extra forward remains a priority.
