ENGLAND’S Brogan Townend became the first home club winner of the Pleasington Putter last Sunday.

In the 29th year of the competition, 16-year-old Townend beat off more than 50 competitors to win three shots clear of her nearest challenger, Curtis Cup reserve player Amy Boulden of Wales.

It is the latest success story for Townend, who posted a 36-hole score of three under par.

She won the U16 Faldo Series girls’ title last year and was in England’s winning team at this season’s Scottish U16 strokeplay championship. She was also runner-up in the girls’ event at the Fairhaven Trophies.

The standard of entry at the Pleasington Putter was extremely high with 16 entrants boasting handicaps of one or better.

Townend played towards the end of the field and followed up her opening morning round of 70 with an afternoon round of 75 for a winning score of 145.
