BURNLEY have confirmed their interest in Peter Whittingham, but admitted the Cardiff winger is “one of a number of targets”.
The Clarets are set to bolster their squad next week, on Brian Laws’ return from holiday, to boost their ambitions for a Championship assault that begins with the visit of Nottingham Forest on August 7.
Burnley were reported to have made a £1.75million bid for last season’s Championship top scorer, but a move for the 25-year-old has not yet thought to have reached such an advanced stage.
Cardiff have put a £3million valuation on Whittingham, who spent a one-month loan spell at Turf Moor under former manager Steve Cotterill in 2005.
However, the Bluebirds are likely to have to settle for less if they are to cash in on a player who is about to enter the last year of his contract and could walk away for nothing next summer.
Forest are rivals for Whittingham's signature, after he guided Cardiff into the play-offs with 25 goals.
