JIMMY Waddington came good right on cue to win Burnley and Pendle’s top snooker competition.
Not even a false fire alarm could deny him his moment of glory as he swept to victory to lift the Moorhouse Golden Cue award.
Waddington, of the Lamb Club, Barrowford, pocketed the £500 first place prize money after beating Dean Emmott 4-1 in the final held at the Ighten Leigh club.
While it was not a final of high breaks, it was intriguing all the same as Jimmy bossed proceedings. He took the opening frame before Colne Legion’s Emmott showed all his experience to level matters.
But there was to be no stopping Waddington who clinched the next three frames to wrap up a deserved victory in front of a big crowd.
David Grant, MD of Moorhouse Brewery was on hand to present the awards and prize money, Emmott picking up £250 for his runners-up spot.
Organiser Neil McGovern was delighted with the turnout especially as it was the first time the final was switched to a weekend rather than a midweek evening.
“This is a format I will be sticking to for next year,” said McGovern. “We already have interest for next year’s event which will start in late September, early October.
“There was a great crowd of nearly 150 spectators for the final for which I was pleasantly surprised as it is the first time we have held it on a Sunday afternoon as opposed to a midweek evening as we have done in previous years.”
