MORTEN Gamst Pedersen’s agent insists the Norwegian is “enjoying his football” at Ewood Park – but Blackburn Rovers remain in the dark about his future.
The midfielder was expected to tell Rovers yesterday whether he was going to sign the new deal on offer but the day passed with no contact between the club and Pedersen’s representatives.
Rovers remain hopeful the 28-year-old will still extend his six-year stay in East Lancashire, with encouraging noises made from the Norwegian’s people, but are desperate to know one way or the other as soon as possible.
His agent Rune Hauge, speaking from Guernsey, told the Lancashire Telegraph ‘positive’ talks had been held but was staying non-committal on when a final decision would be made.
He said: “Things are positive between the club and Morten, but there are still these little details to sort out. The little details are often the big things.
“He is enjoying his football at Blackburn and he is enjoying the new midfield role he is playing.
“Everything is good at Blackburn, things are positive. "But we don’t know how long until a decision is made, it could be any time.”
Pedersen’s Ewood Park exit looked inevitable earlier this campaign as he continued to struggle to find the form that made him one of the Premier League’s top midfielders in his first few seasons with Rovers.
A move into a more central midfield role though has rejuvenated his Rovers career and turned the majority of supporters back in his favour - just at a time when his performances had been attracting a few jeers.
Pedersen remains an integral part of Sam Allardyce’s Premier League squad having started every game since the middle of January, with Rovers aware of the struggle they would have to replace him.
Should Pedersen opt not to stay at Ewood, manager Allardyce would have to decide whether a replacement would be needed or whether to use the money saved from his wages on increasing their financial power in their striker search.
