Burnley been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Michael Chopra.
However, any deal for the 22-year-old, who turned down a one-year extenstion to his contract at St James' Park, is expected to involve a fee of £300,000.
As a result, it is unlikely that Chopra would be heading to Turf Moor at the moment as Cotterill last week said: "If I had £300,000 to spend, I would have spent it by now."
Cardiff and Barnsley are also in the hunt for the hard-working midfielder, with the Welsh club favourites to land him.
