Burnley manager Steve Cotterill has paid tribute to striker Kyle Lafferty who capped a wonderful year by making his Northern Ireland debut in America.
The 19-year-old was only brought into the Clarets first-team squad during pre-season training last summer and was then handed his debut on the first day of the Championship against Crewe.
Cotterill offered the youngster a professional contract in December and after a successful loan spell at Darlington, Lafferty finished the season at Turf Moor with a goal against Luton.
Lawrie Sanchez brought him into the Northern Ireland squad for the two-match tour of America, and he was given his debut at the Giants Stadium, New Jersey. Burnley team-mates Michael Duff and Steve Jones also featured.
"I texted Michael on Sunday night to ask how all the lads had got on against Uruguay," said Cotterill.
"Michael played 85 minutes at right-back, Steve played on the right wing and at centre forward and Kyle got on for the last 15 minutes, so I am delighted for all three of the lads."
All three will hoping for a chance to impress against Romania on Friday at the Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago.
Despite the defeat, Sanchez saw improvement in his side and believes they heading in the "right direction".
"I am pleased with the way we performed as a team," he said.
