TEEN ace Kyle Lafferty admits he has been left stunned by his full Northern Ireland call-up.

The 18-year-old striker was preparing to team up with the Under 19s in Belgium after Wednesday's Under 21 match against Liechtenstein.

But, after ending his debut season as a professional by scoring his first goal for Burnley on the last day of the Championship against Luton Town, his full international call-up has capped an impressive campaign.

Belfast-born Lafferty is now set to head to the USA with Lawrie Sanchez's squad later this month for two friendlies against Uruguay and Romania in New York and Chicago.

"It's been an unbelievable season and this news is just the icing on the cake for me," said Lafferty, who will join fellow Clarets Michael Duff and Steve Jones on the tour.

"I was stunned when I was told I would be joining the full squad and it still hasn't sunk in yet.

"Just to be playing first team football was enough for me in my first season as a professional and I'm absolutely over the moon."

It is only a year since Lafferty was asked to join the Burnley squad for their pre-season tour to Austria at the end of his first term as an apprentice.

After making his senior debut in August, he then impressed on loan at League Two side Darlington, scoring three goals in nine games.

On his return to Turf Moor in February, he remained in Steve Cotterill's first team thoughts and repaid the manager's faith in him by netting his first goal in a Burnley shirt in the 1-1 draw at home to the Hatters last month.

Lafferty added: "I've never been to America before and that will be an experience in itself. To get a cap would mean everything to me."
