BLACKBURN Rovers target Eidur Gudjohnsen will hold talks with Chelsea later this week to clarify his future at Stamford Bridge.
The Icelandic international, who is wanted by Rovers manager Mark Hughes, is thought to have grown frustrated by his lack of first team opportunities with the title-winning Blues.
And if Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho indicates in that meeting that he might be prepared to let Gudjohnsen go then Rovers are likely to be among a posse of clubs who will join the race for his signature.
The 27-year-old forward struggled to pin down a regular starting place at the Bridge last season, with Mourinho often choosing to introduce him from the bench.
He is also thought to be frustrated by the fact he had to make many of those appearances in a midfield role rather than as a second striker, which is his preferred position.
Gudjohnsen's father and agent, Arnor, has told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph his son wants reassurances regarding his Chelsea future, and if those reassurances aren't forthcoming then he will begin to consider other options'.
Speaking from Iceland, Gudjohnsen senior said: "I think we need to try and clear up what Eidur's future is going to be with Peter Kenyon (Chelsea's chief executive) this week.
"We've got to look at every option and it's something that Eidur has to consider.
"At this moment in time, it's difficult to make any comment on this because he hasn't made up his mind."
If Gudjohnsen decides he wants to quit Stamford Bridge then clubs will be queuing up for his services.
Ideally, the former Bolton striker would seek a move to a club in the Champions League, but the fact Rovers are in Europe would give Mark Hughes an outside chance of signing him.
