If there's one thing that I've learned as the football season comes to an end it's that you should never presume anything.

As the losses on my fixed odds coupons of the past few weeks prove, there's no such thing as a sure thing' as the season nears its climax.

So for all Rovers fans pressing the panic button after TWO whole games without a victory, fear not - it's happening all over the country!

That said, while I'm not exactly chewing my fingers to the bone over the last two games, I must say I am slightly perturbed.

It's not the actual results that are worrying more the way we've played in them, and to a lesser extent team selection.

I've never had a reason to doubt the team selection of Sparky but the omission of Andy Todd for the last couple of games has been somewhat baffling.

I can possibly understand him being out of the starting eleven but out of the squad altogether?

Then there's the benching of Pongolle. It's true that he's not exactly set the world alight in his time at Rovers so far but he's always looked bright and lively and, most importantly, the best partner for Craig Bellamy.

In his absence our play has become more fragmented as Paul Dickov's main brief appears to be on winning free kicks rather than holding the ball up.

I'm sure the manager has his reasons but it does seem unusual from this fan's perspective.

Nevertheless, the teams selected for the last two games were still well enough equipped to perform better than they did.

As I mentioned earlier, the results for me are not too big an issue.

Wigan were strong and resolute and Portsmouth epitomised a rejuvenated side who are fighting for their lives.

But the players in Rovers shirts seem to be reverting to a plan that we've not had to resort to at any other stage of this season, the long ball game.

While our good performances and results this season have been built on solid defence and neat football played on the floor, suddenly we've turned into a team that wants to knock it long at the earliest opportunity.

And the reason Craig Bellamy.

In my opinion now that it's getting a bit tense and every game takes on even greater significance, some of our players are shirking their responsibilities and hoping for his brilliance to create us something.

With five games to go, Europe is still there for us. It'd be better if we get back playing in the style that got us here in the first place.
