STEVE Cotterill today warned his Burnley players they are not in the comfort zone yet.
The Clarets have virtually assured themselves of Championship football next season ahead of tomorrow's War of the Roses clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
But Cotterill has revealed plans to mix things up in the final six games of the season to keep everyone on their toes.
He said: "I think the four points (from the last two games) will be enough, but we don't want the players to be switching off at Sheffield Wednesday and on their summer holidays because they think they're safe.
"Between now and the end of the season there are a few of them playing for their futures.
"Only Graham Branch is out of contract, but that doesn't mean to say there won't be any activity.
"I need to keep that under wraps until any business is done, but until then there will be a few things we do differently between now and the end of the season, just to look at a few different things.
"We did that with Alan Mahon on the right (on Tuesday), probably more to get him in the team and get him playing.
"I think I will try a few more things that might have people asking why's he done that?' - but I need to look at them for next year as well.
"I'll not experiment too much to the detriment of the side, but I will try and look at a few things that I don't really want to learn about on the first day of next season. I'd rather learn about them now."
Cotterill has again reiterated his aim to try and finish in the top half of the table by ending the season with a bang.
And after freshening up the dressing room with the addition of three new faces in recent weeks, he believes that would represent an "unbelievable" achievement in trying times.
"I think bringing the three lads in has given the dressing room a lift, and the spirit seems to have been different in the last two weeks," explained the Clarets boss.
"We've just played two teams who have just come down from the Premiership with the remnants of Premiership players, and I thought we did well.
"The league's a lot tighter and it's a lot more difficult this season. The points are spread across the board a lot more evenly, but we want to finish above where we did last year (13th).
"We need another couple of results, but if we could better that it would be an unbelievable season after what we've gone through with the bad start and bad run after Christmas."
