THE chief executive of Accrington Stanley has vowed to ban any troublemakers after fans were involved in violence following Saturday's win at York.

Accrington won their Nationwide Conference away game against York City 4 -2 to move a step closer to a return to the Football League.

But the celebrations were marred by a small number of fans causing trouble in the city centre.

Several bars were forced to shut early and police had to break up fighting between what they believed to be Accrington Stanley and York City fans.

A series of incidents resulted in arrests being made outside the Hole In The Wall pub, High Petergate.

Four people were arrested for public disorder offences and taken to York Police Station.

Stanley chief executive Rob Heys said: "There are only a few details available about the incident at the moment but I am aware that the majority of Accrington Stanley fans left straight after the game. They had a good time and mixed well with the York fans.

"I don't think the people getting involved in the fighting are Accrington Stanley fans and there were rumours before the game that a few people, who do not support Stanley, were planning to go along and cause trouble.

"If we find out who these people are we will be banning them from our ground. We will be very pro-active in dealing with them."

A spokesman for York Police said: "There was a small amount of disorder in York. Four people were arrested and several licensed premises closed early at 7pm.

"Any Accrington Stanley fans were then escorted to the train station to avoid further conflict and were dealt with by the British Transport Police."

Accrington Stanley extended their lead at the top of the table to 14 points after nearest rivals Hereford were beaten.
