FORMER Burnley manager Stan Ternent was on the phone yesterday, keen to set the record straight regarding Andy Payton.
Regular readers of Payton's weekly Telegraph column might recall the striker expressing his delight at being asked to play in Paul Cook's testimonial in May.
Learning the ex-Clarets X1 was to be managed by Stan, he then quipped: "I'd better take my tracksuit in case I'm on the bench again."
However, Stan demanded a right to reply, insisting: "Andy should be more careful with his words.
"I helped save his career, not wreck it and it was only to save his skin that he was sent out to Blackpool on loan after his off-field problems.
"I thought Andy was a little out of order and I'll tell him that when I see him next!"
I think I'd definitely pack that tracksuit Andy!
