Mark Hughes has revealed why he feels Tugay still has another year left in him at the top level with Blackburn Rovers.
The Turkish midfielder, who is back in training after missing last week's win over Middlesbrough with a calf injury, is close to agreeing to stay at Ewood for next season, by which time he will be 36.
But Hughes said: "There's different types of midfield players and Tugay has a certain style which means it (his age) won't really affect his role.
"He's not a high energy type of player who has spent years and years trying to get from box to box so he has one more year in him.
"He's four or five steps ahead of most people anyway and anyone who has seen him play knows he is a master in his position.
"And he's playing his best stuff since he's been at Blackburn.
"I think he is happy here and hopefully he will sign for us."
