Steve Cotterill has revealed is disappointment' at the delay in finalising a new long-term contract at Turf Moor.
Chairman Barry Kilby first revealed the two men were discussing a deal as far back as November's AGM.
Three months on, deadlocked talks have taken on a new twist following Leicester City's failed approach for the Clarets boss last week.
Cotterill said: "Things are still pretty much as they were the other night and I am just getting on with my job.
"It started in November and I suppose you could say that I am a little bit disappointed they have taken so long to sort it out.
"That is not me having a go at the chairman, but we are three months down the line and I don't feel it would have taken a lot of sorting out.
"Instead it has reached a stage where someone has come in for me, but I am not angry about it. It's just an honest opinion."
