BLACKBURN boss Mark Hughes has opened talks with Tugay about a new contract.

The veteran midfielder's current deal is due to expire in the summer, but Hughes wants the 35-year-old to stay on for another season and he's hoping to thrash out a deal in the next few weeks after starting negotiations.

"I've spoken to Tugay and we want him to stay," Hughes told the Evening Telegraph.

"We are talking and, hopefully, something can be sorted out."

The former Rangers star, who joined Rovers for a bargain £1.5 million in the summer of 2001, has been a revelation this season, turning in a string of eye-catching performances in the centre of midfield.

Several clubs in Turkey are likely to express an interest in signing him in the summer and, as I understand it, he also has an offer to play in Qatar once his deal expires with Rovers.
