Chester Youth 0 Burnley Youth 1: Connor Smith's first half strike saw off Chester and saw Burnley through to the next round of the Youth Alliance Cup.
Terry Pashley's side earned a tie with Tranmere Rovers in the fourth round of the competition following Smith's 20-yard strike on the stroke of half time.
Coach Pashley said: "It was a game of two halves really.
"We totally controlled the first half of the game and could have had three or four goals but we came out for the second half and it was a different game.
"They were causing us problems and it was real backs-to-the-wall stuff at stages.
"There was some great defending though and they missed their chances, so it was enough to seal the win."
The victory means Burnley, who have a mouth-watering home clash with Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup next Monday, now face an even more congested fixture list.
Pashley explained: "We're going to have to postpone the league game with Wigan in order to fit in the next round. But it's another win for us and we want to keep it going."
Burnley: Matthews, Henry, Casey (Stott), Smith, Blackler, Reilly, Underwood, Platt, Hanley, Kay (Turner), Rodriguez (Craig).
