Colne’s Steven Burke is expected to go for World Championships gold in Copenhagen tonight when he represents Great Britain in the team pursuit event.
The Beijing Olympic medallist is likely to get the nod as one of the four British riders for the event, with Chorley’s Jason Queally also a contender after making a comeback at the age of 39.
Burke, 22, is also a reserve for Sunday’s omnium, the pentathlon of cycling, but his main goal will be helping Great Britain turn their favourites tag into a gold medal in the team pursuit.
The East Lancashire rider suffered disappointment at last year’s World Championships when Great Britain finished fourth and he was hampered by food poisoning. The BBC will show tonight’s cycling on BBC2 between 7pm and 8pm, and on the red button between 6pm and 8.30pm.
