WE were desperately disappointed to see Tuesday’s night’s home game with Burton called off because of a frozen pitch.
We were ready for the game and confident of getting the win to take us into the play-off places, especially after our win over Bradford City on Saturday, when John Miles, pictured, scored both goals.
You do start to think that perhaps football is going a little soft.
I am certain the game could have gone ahead but the referee took the decision to call it off because if the forecasted freezing weather and snow and you have to respect that decision.
But you saw other games taking place in not great conditions and it is a real frustration.
Maybe we should start playing in the summer as they do in the Republic of Ireland.
There they play from the end of February through to November and I am sure the fans prefer going to a game on a nice night in shirt sleeves rather than looking out of the window and wondering how many layers they need to put on.
It has worked with rugby league and I am sure it would work with football. It would certainly make the game more appealing to spectators and I know when I would prefer to watch a game.
But on the plus side, the postponement has given us a break ahead of Saturday’s game at Torquay.
It is a long trip and it will be a hard game down there as they are tough to beat.
But it’s the sort of game we are looking to win and we want to continue our progression.
