SAM Allardyce believes too many wrong decisions are being made by Premier League officials – after seeing his side cruelly denied a first win at Upton Park for more than a decade.
The Rovers boss accepted his side had to take their share of responsibility for failing to turn a dominant display into a rare away win, but insisted referee Peter Walton and his assistants also need to shoulder some of the blame.
Mr Walton missed Mark Noble’s blatant goal-line handball clearance to deny Gael Givet a deserved winner, while Jason Roberts, Martin Olsson and Morten Gamst Pedersen all had chances to break the deadlock.
Allardyce has been left fuming by several refereeing blunders this season – none more so than the unpunished push on Ryan Nelsen in Rovers’ Carling Cup semi final defeat – as he looks for their luck to turn.
He said: “We have dropped two points, there is no doubt about that. You just have to look at the chances we created in the second half and see we should have taken all three points.
“When Greeny got in the way of Martin Olsson’s shot and Jason Roberts’ one-on-one, we then had some poor finishing when Martin side-footed a volley over the bar and then there is the big one.
“We look like we have got a goal, it has rolled up Noble’s thigh and he pops his arm up and plays it out with his arm.
"We are all jumping up and down saying ‘penalty’ but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
“That is a great shame. We have ourselves to blame for the chances we have missed but we also have a decision to blame that should have gone our way.
“They thought they were on their way to Wembley the other week until they get that hauled away from them by a decision from a referee. It seems to happen far too often unfortunately.”
Allardyce though was delighted with his side’s display as they made it three games unbeaten to climb up to 10th in the Premier League table.
“It was a terrific second half performance, we completely controlled the play, we dominated the game and created chance after chance but could not find the ultimate finish,” he said.
“We are delighted to be on this undefeated run.
"We are playing well and the good players are producing good performances on a consistent basis.
“We nearly got both things perfectly correct. That was the defending side, in not allowing West Ham a chance, and the attacking side with the chances we created but we didn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
“Hopefully we can start looking to have a comfortable position in the Premier League and then see how far we can go.”
