I WILL be doing the half-time draw for Burnley’s home game against Chelsea on Saturday and it’s funny really because I only did the draw down at Stamford Bridge last week.
Obviously Chelsea are another of my former clubs and I was invited down there for their game against Sunderland.
I walked around the pitch and got a good reception, which was nice, and I hope it will be the same this weekend at Turf Moor.
There’s only really Ray Wilkins, Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant manager, left at Chelsea from my time there as a player but hopefully I’ll say hello to him on Saturday.
Chelsea won 7-2 in that game against Sunderland and they were very impressive. They were three or four up inside 20 minutes.
The race for the league title is very close at the moment – any one of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal can win it – but obviously I hope my old club will finish top.
I’ve no divided loyalties on Saturday, though. I want Burnley to win.
It will be a tough game because Chelsea have got a lot of good players, but we’re good at home so I don’t see why we can’t get a result. And a draw would be good really.
No-one thought we could beat Manchester United and that was so important for confidence at the start of the season, and if we could get a result against Chelsea that would be too.
It’s a shame that Didier Drogba might be back after the Ivory Coast were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations, because he is one of the best strikers in the world – but then again so is Nicolas Anelka.
And if we could beat both Manchester United and Chelsea at home in the same season, no matter what else happens this season that would be quite an achievement.
Losing at Reading in the FA Cup was disappointing and it’s a shame Reading have got a home game against West Brom in the fifth round. With our home record, that’s a game we could have won.
I did think kicking off at 12.45pm was a bit strange on Saturday and it was a bit harsh on the Burnley fans because it’s a long way to travel and they had to set off very early.
There do seem to have some strange kick-off times these days. You can understand it when it’s live television, but not for when it’s only live on the FA website. And I hear the website crashed anyway.
It’s a 5.30pm kick-off against Chelsea on Saturday and I suppose that’s understandable because it’s the normal kick-off time for television.
It’s Brian Laws first home game and he will be looking forward to it.
I’m sure he will get a good reception and the fans will get right behind him.
