BURNLEY will find out today whether on-loan striker David Nugent will stay until the end of the season.
As I understand it, the Clarets are hopeful of finalising an extension and avoid Portsmouth either recalling the 24-year-old or selling him elsewhere, after meeting the conditions of the contract that was set up when his initial loan deal was agreed in the last transfer window.
Nugent is available to face Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium tonight, regardless of the outcome of ongoing talks with Fratton Park officials, while his current loan agreement doesn’t run out until after Saturday’s visit of Chelsea.
But manager Brian Laws is keen to know where the club stands before his first home game in charge.
“We’ve been talking to them quite a lot. Brendan Flood has been communicating with them, the chairman’s been communicating with them on a regular basis so everybody’s got their finger on the pulse,” said Laws.
“The only thing Portsmouth can do is pull him back (meaning they would have to pay his wages) and that’s the last thing they need at this present time.”
