SAM Allardyce will have any transfer funds raised this month at his disposal to freshen up the squad - but Blackburn Rovers will not be panicked into selling players on the cheap over the last nine days of the transfer window.
Talks with West Ham over Benni McCarthy’s future are believed to have broken down, with the Hammers still considerably away from Rovers’ asking price, but the Ewood Park outfit are not concerned over a potential lack of additions ahead of the Premier League run-in.
Monaco are believed to have joined Galatasaray in tracking McCarthy’s situation with interest but, with the exception of West Ham, no club has made any official approach for the South African.
Rovers are believed to be wanting close to £3million for McCarthy and sources close to the club understand any agreement with West Ham has become increasingly unlikely.
Stoke City striker James Beattie remains on Allardyce’s list of possible targets, believed to be available for in the region of £2.5million, although McCarthy’s exit could leave the Rovers boss looking for a different type of player.
With Jason Roberts, Franco Di Santo and Nikola Kalinic all capable of filling the target man role, Allardyce could look to replace McCarthy with a similarly creative type, with Stuttgart’s Turkish midfielder Yildiray Basturk on their radar.
Reports claiming a loan deal for Basturk has already been agreed are highly premature but, should Rovers receive a satisfactory offer for McCarthy, the 31-year-old would become an option for Allardyce.
