BRIAN Laws spent his first night in charge of Burnley watching Reading beat Liverpool at Anfield, so he knows his side will be in for a tricky time at the Madejski Stadium this afternoon.

Laws wasted no time on the day of his appointment by making his way to Liverpool to survey Burnley’s FA Cup fourth-round opponents.

Many expected the Clarets to be travelling to Anfield today, but instead it was Reading who prevailed.

“I saw Reading earn a fantastic win at Liverpool,” said Laws.

“They stuck to their game plan, there was a bit of unrest and the supporters at Liverpool were nervy, but you could sense Reading could get something, and they played ever so well.

“They were the best team in the first half, yet went a goal down, but they didn’t capitulate. Once they equalised, you could only see one team winning.

“It shows you that if you stay in the game long enough against the top teams, you’ve got a chance.

“They will be buoyant and this will be a really tough game.”
