I don’t really know too much about Brian Laws, so we can only really judge him after his first few games in charge of Burnley.
It’s hard to say at the moment. I know he was at Sheffield Wednesday but other than that I don’t know much about him.
I was encouraged, though, by the team he picked for his first game in charge at Manchester United on Saturday.
He didn’t go with five or six at the back as some teams do at Old Trafford.
He was positive with his team selection, playing David Nugent up front alongside Steven Fletcher.
And it was good to see David Edgar start as well. The only time we’ve really seen him was pre-season but sometimes when there’s a change of manager other people do get their chance.
Even though we lost 3-0 in the end, there were quite a few positives to take from the game.
We had a few chances and if we had gone 1-0 up you don’t know what would have happened.
United are very good at home, so it was good that we were making chances.
Hopefully now we can get a win in our next game in the FA Cup at Reading on Saturday.
We were drawn against Reading or Liverpool, and you’d rather play Reading than Liverpool.
You’d get more money against Liverpool but we want to progress in the competition and there’s probably a better chance of that at Reading.
Having said that, I thought Reading thoroughly deserved to beat Liverpool in their replay at Anfield last week, even though they were 1-0 down and equalised in the 90th minute. It won’t be an easy game.
Our priority of course is to stay in the Premier League but it would be nice to have a good run in the cup again like we did last year.
Sometimes it can help the league form and the cup runs last year certainly didn’t do us any harm in the Championship run-in.
The manager might pick the same side again providing there are no injuries, and the more games he gets under his belt at this stage to learn about his players, the better.
Reading might be after a bit of revenge after we beat them in the play-offs last year, and they’ll be approaching it in the same way they did against Liverpool.
No-one expected us to go to the Madejski and win in the second leg of the play-offs last May, but we won it with two great goals.
I personally think we can go there on Saturday and win.
We’ve done it before and we can do it again.
