STEPHEN Jordan has targeted a mini-run over Christmas to get Burnley looking up the table, rather than down, in the New Year.

And the Clarets fullback has pointed to Wolves as an example of the great strides that can be made with just a few positive results.

Mick McCarthy’s men were languishing in the Premier League’s bottom three when Burnley arrived at Molineux on Sunday.

But a 2-0 win, Wolves’ third in four games, propelled them up to 12th.

In contrast, the Clarets have achieved back-to-back wins only once this season, and a run of one win in 10 has seen them slip from 10th to 14th - their lowest position since an opening day defeat at Stoke City.

Wolves’ recent revival began with a 2-1 home win over Bolton Wanderers, who the Clarets face on Boxing Day. And Jordan hopes a similar result at Turf Moor can provide them with the spark they need to climb back up the table.

“It’s a big game on Boxing Day which hopefully we can get three points from,” said the left back.

“The away form is something we need to address, we seem to be playing well in spells and then get a sucker punch by conceding some sloppy goals.

“But Wolves were in the bottom three and have gone to 12th with one win, so if we get a couple of wins under our belt then we can be looking up rather than looking down.

“Everyone knows there is probably the top six and after that everyone in and around the bottom half needs to beat each other, so it’s more important to take points from them. If you beat any of the top teams that’s just a bonus.

“It’s a tough fight to stay up, but in the camp we know we deserve to be in the Premier League.”

Bolton have replaced Wolves in 18th place, but are only three points adrift of the Clarets with two games in hand, after their derby with Wigan Athletic was postponed on Monday night because of the snow.

Jordan is determined to put further distance between the two sides, and admitted staff are working hard to ensure the Christmas clash doesn’t fall foul of the weather either.

“I don’t think you expect to play a Boxing Day game in the sunshine, you get used to the festive period with the snow and freezing cold. But everybody is getting involved trying to get the ground clear, even the car cleaner!” said the 27-year-old, who deputised at centre half after both Clarke Carlisle and captain Steven Caldwell were injured at Wolves.

Both are suffering groin problems and have been rated doubtful by manager Owen Coyle for the Boxing Day clash.
