BLACKBURN Rovers’ Academy stars are gunning for Lancashire pride tonight whey face Blackpool in the third round of the FA Youth Cup at Ewood Park (kick-off 7pm).

Gary Bowyer’s Under 18 side have made an excellent start to their Premier Academy League season after chalking up eight wins, three draws and just two defeats from their opening 13 games.

It is a record that sees Rovers lead their Group C table, three points clear of nearest challengers Manchester United.

Now the young Blackburn charges turn their attention to the FA Youth Cup and Bowyer admits it is a big opportunity for them to sparkle on the big stage.

“It is always nice to get a home draw, and the opportunity for the lads to play at Ewood which is ultimately where we are striving for them to do,” said Bowyer.

“It is a tough draw, but we’ve to got to work hard and to try and get through to the next round.”

As well as topping their league group, further Academy success this season has seen many of the Under 18 squad make regular reserve team appearances, while 17-year-old defender Phil Jones made his debut for the first-team in the Carling Cup.

Bowyer added: “In terms of the player development this season, it has been a good one for the Academy.”

Admission for tonight’s FA Youth Cup tie is free for season ticket holders on production of their Season Ticket card.

General admission prices are £3 adults and £1 juniors.
