JOHN Coleman has no intention of letting Accrington Stanley chute down “Florida’s Wet ‘n Wild” this season.

The Reds ended a run of three winless League Two matches on Tuesday night by beating Football League newcomers Burton Albion.

Goals from strikers Billy Kee and Michael Symes proved decisive as Stanley extended the gap between themselves and the relegation zone to 10 points.

More important to Coleman, however, is seeing his side move within six points of the play-offs with a game in hand.

After becoming accustomed to scrapping for survival since the Reds re-entered the League in 2006, the Stanley boss is far happier creating a splash up the table.

“We were three games without a win and you start doubting yourselves,” said Coleman.

“With there being a full programme on Tuesday, we couldn’t afford to lose ground on teams.

“Once you start sliding down the table it’s like being on a water slide at Wet ‘n Wild in Florida. You just can’t stop yourself going down.

“It was important that we stopped that and started going the other way. Thankfully, we’ve got a win that will help us.

“We want to try to get as many points as we can to try to give ourselves a fighting chance going into the second half of the season, looking at threatening the correct end of the table rather than staving off relegation.”

Stanley bid for back-to-back victories tomorrow against Paul Buckle’s Torquay, another of last season’s promoted Blue Square Premier clubs, as they embark on a gruelling programme of five games in 15 days.

Defender Kieran Charnock, who spent eight months on loan at Accrington last season, returns to the Crown Ground in Gulls colours.

On the chance to put one over the former Chorley-based centre-back, Coleman said: “It would be nice.

"We still speak to Kieran, so we’ll put that friendship aside for an hour and a half.

“But he’s a good lad Kieran and it’s nice to see players who have played for you and served you well, do well.”

The Reds manager added: “One thing you know about this league is that no-one ever gives you wins.

“I know Paul Buckle well, he's a very good manager and he’s got a good side there. That will be far from easy.”
