Manager Owen Coyle is keen for Burnley’s first-team hopefuls to follow the example set by winger Chris Eagles and work their way into the reckoning.

The former Manchester United midfielder struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League and did not make his first start for the Clarets until October 24.

But having put in numerous hours on the training ground he has been rewarded with an unbroken five-match run in the starting line-up, and an impressive late show in last weekend’s 5-3 defeat at West Ham - when he scored one, and set up the other two goals - was his best performance to date.

“Chris has had to be patient, sitting on the bench for a few games, but when he has come in he has shown his quality,” said the Clarets boss.

“We have had to work hard with him on the training ground because this is not the Championship, it is the Premier League and that demands different things.

“Eagles in the last 25 minutes (against West Ham) was a sight to behold and we need that from him on a regular basis and if he does that it will serve us well.”
