PHIL Scholes is aiming to finish his 2009 season on a high note when he contests this weekend’s Grizedale Stages in Cumbria.

The Blackburn teenager has endured a ‘character building’ year behind the wheel of his Peugeot 205GTi.

A former winner of the 2300 Club’s John Easson Scholarship, Scholes was tipped to be a front-runner in this year’s Peugeot 205 Challenge.

But a combination of bad luck and mechanical problems prevented him from making the expected impact.

“It’s not been a good year for him, but we’d like to go out with a decent result, “ said his dad Rob.

“Phil’s got an experienced navigator alongside him in Charlie Woodward, but there’s no pressure on him. the idea is just to go out and have some fun and try and get to the finish.”
