ON-LOAN Blackburn Rovers centre back Johnny Flynn is elig-ible for his Accrington debut at Burton Albion tonight, and hopes to maintain a 100 per cent league record at first-team level.

The Northern Ireland under 21 international last week joined Stanley on loan until January 2 but was cup tied for Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Barnet in the FA Cup after playing for Chester earlier in the competition.

Flynn’s one-month stay at the Deva may have been regarded as a baptism of fire for the 20-year-old, such were the Blue Square Premier club’s financial troubles, but he believes the move could not have gone much better.

“Obviously it was hard but in the five games I played we actually played really well,” said Flynn.

“We picked up nine points out of nine in the league. I wouldn’t mind that at Accrington.”

The Belfast-raised Flynn links up with ex-Rovers team-mate Dean Winnard and Northern Ireland under 21 colleague Billy Kee.

“Deano was at Blackburn when I first arrived and we actually lived together for a while and he helped me settle in,” said the defender.

“Billy is a smashing guy, too, and he actually said to me that Accrington wanted me and I wouldn’t believe him. I thought, ‘Why would they want me?’ “After my loan move at Chester, Blackburn wanted me to take the next step up and I think they made contact with Accrington.

“And as soon as the gaffer is ready to pick me, I feel as if I’m ready to make the step up.”

It looked like Flynn would be an automatic choice to start at the Pirelli Stadium with Darran Kempson expected to serve a one-match ban for five bookings, but the FA has now confirmed it was not Kempson but Sean McConville who was shown a yellow card for dissent at the end of the Barnet game.

John Miles and Bobby Grant are suspended, while Ian Dunbavin (thigh) is expected to miss out so loan keeper Dean Bouzanis is in line for his first start.

Tom Lees is available after going off with cramp on Saturday.

Paul Peschisolido’s Burton currently sit five places above Stanley, who are 17th in League Two.
