DARWEN Vale High School are flying the flag for local school teams in the ESFA Under 15 Schools’ Cup.
All other local teams have fallen by the wayside but Darwen Vale have battled their way through to the fourth round of the national competition and will now take on Chesterfield High School specialist sports college for a place in the last 32.
The trophy was lifted by Walbottle Campus Technology College (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) last time round and the prestigious competition has attracted an impressive 839 teams this season.
Darwen Vale began their campaign with a narrow 3-2 first round victory against Range High School (Sefton) before overcoming St Benedict’s College (Liverpool) 6-5 after extra time in a thrilling end to end second round clash.
Another tense 4-3 victory followed in round three against Lymm High School (Mid Cheshire) and Darwen Vale will be hoping for an easier passage against Chesterfield in their fourth round clash.
Meanwhile, at district level, Blackburn Under 14s bid to make progress in the Wrennal Trophy when they take on South Ribble at AFC Darwen.
The game takes place on Thursday, kick off 7pm.
