ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman hit out at the match officials and Barnet striker Jake Hyde after two controversial incidents denied his team victory in the FA Cup second round on Saturday.

Stanley will travel to Underhill for a replay – currently scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 7.45pm – after being held to a 2-2 draw at the Crown Ground.

But Coleman knew his team would have already been in the third round had it not been for referee Craig Pawson’s decision to send off John Miles for a dangerous tackle on Ismail Yakubu before half time, then linesman Ross Joyce’s award of an injury time penalty for a foul by Dean Winnard on Hyde.

On the penalty, which was converted by John O’Flynn for a last-gasp equaliser, Coleman said: “Dean has put his hand on his shoulder but if every time you put your hand on an attacker’s shoulder in the box it’s a penalty there will be 20 penalties a game minimum.

“He hasn't done enough to bring him down and the lad threw himself and it's worked, so in some respects people like that prosper.

“It's the actions of a desperate man and we probably shouldn’t have a go at him.

"He’s tried to do the best for his team.

“But if that’s enough to make him go down he should be playing in under-sevens football.

“The linesman never wanted to get involved all day and then lo and behold he’s got involved with a penalty decision.

“He’s 40 yards away from the incident, the referee's 12 yards away.

"The referee saw it and yet he has let the linesman overrule him.

“And for the sending off what you’ve got is a referee who has rushed a decision.

"He hasn't thought about it and the decision he's made has been the wrong one.

“We should be in the third round of the cup. Let’s be honest we were the better team – even with 10 men.”

The Reds boss now faces selection problems for tomorrow's League Two match at Burton, with Bobby Grant and Darran Kempson set to serve one-match bans after both picked up their fifth booking of the season on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin is also a major doubt after being substituted with a thigh problem, while Tom Lees also limped off late on.

Miles will miss the next three games – against Burton and Torquay in the league and then the cup replay at Barnet – through suspension, with Coleman suggesting an appeal is unlikely because ‘history tells you we don’t win appeals’.

Miles said: “The lad came in (for a challenge) and I've jumped over him and ended up kind of stamping on him.

“I can half understand why the referee sent me off but I never meant it.

“I just couldn’t get out of the way and landed on his stomach.”
