PADIHAM’S away win at third-placed Congleton will be remembered not only for Robbie Smith’s stunning goal from inside his own half but an outstanding goalkeeping display from Sean Davis.

The Storks keeper single-handidly kept the Congleton strikeforce at bay in the latter stages with a series of top class.

While the home side were left totally frustrated by Davis’ heroics, they all applauded him for his performance.

Both sides created chances early in the first half but the game sprung to life in the 22nd minute when a clearance from Congleton keeper Matthew Conkie dropped inside the Storks half only for Smith to fire the loose ball back over the home defence and the stranded keeper in to the unguarded goal from fully 60 yards out.

After the break, Padiham had some early chances to extend their lead before the home side laid siege on the Padiham goal.

However, the Storks made not there was to be no late collapse thanks to the inspired Davis.
