RYAN Nelsen believes David Dunn could add an extra dimension to England’s midfield – claiming he brings a touch of ‘Spanish flair’ to the Premier League.
Dunn scored his sixth goal of the season on Sunday to help Blackburn Rovers end their away day misery with a 2-0 win at Bolton as he again strengthened the calls for his England recall.
Skipper Nelsen was one of the first to call for Dunn to get another England chance earlier this season, seven years after his first and only other cap, and he insists he has never been more serious.
Nelsen said: “I wasn’t joking when I said Dunny for England. I play with him day in and day out and I know how good the guy is.
“When he is on the field, playing consistently, there is no better player to watch. "He is very smooth, so nice on the eye and there are not many players in England that are like that.
“He is such a fantastic passer of the ball, very Spanish, like Xavi and Iniesta. "He is technically very good and there aren’t many players like that. He adds a dimension.
“He has that English mentality as well. He never gives up, he works hard and wins his share of the ball when he has to defend.”
