TORRENTIAL rain didn’t spoil Rossendale Motocross Club’s meeting at Whalley Nab – in fact it made it much better!
The weather did the organisers a great favour on the Saturday evening, creating the perfect track conditions for great racing the following day.
“A lot of track preparation had gone into the track including re-vamping existing jumps and adding a couple more, giving the riders extra air time and the spectators some spectacle racing to watch,” explained club spokeswoman Gill Corbally.
At the meeting were several of the north west’s top riders, many of whom compete in the AMCA British Championships and the British Masters, including Aaron Crowder, Dave Wright, Matt Williamson, Lee Buck, Chris Corbally, Dave Parrington, and Rob Clitheroe.
Corbally added: “You could feel the tense and excitement growing as the start of the meeting approached.”
Experts were first down to the start gate to kick off the day and it was Robert Clitheroe’s number that took the lead in race one with Aaron Crowder and Matt Williamson in hot pursuit.
The pace of the race was rapid with no let-up in Crowder’s and Williamson’s pursuit of Clitheroe.
Race two was a different ball game altogether as Williamson’s hole shot saw Crowder, Clitheroe and Dave Wright hunting him down like a pack of wolves.
Crowder took charge midway through race two when Williamson crashed out, losing a few places and letting Clitheroe and Wright through.
“Riders young and old have been enjoying this sport for years and it takes years of dedication to get were these top riders are today,” added Corbally.
There are seven clubs based in the north west, starting with Rossendale MXC, which is based in Whalley right the way up to Cumbria.
The Whalley Nab site is regularly visited and supported by the Event Safety Advisory Group coordinated by Ribble Valley Borough Council.
The group which includes representatives from all the emergency services are working with all motor sport and event organisers in the Ribble Valley to raise awareness on safety standards and best practice.
