ANDY Payton is ready to pull on the Burnley shirt again, after being named in the Clarets’ nine-man squad for the North West section of the Sky Masters Cup 2009.

Payton, dubbed the Padiham Predator, will team up with Andy Farrell, Ian Cox, Roger Eli, Liam Robinson, Ashley Hoskin, Andy Cooke, John Francis and goalkeeper Chris Pearce as Burnley make their debut in the competition, now in its 10th year, at Manchester Arena on July 25.

And the 41-year-old former Hull City and Celtic striker is hoping to make his mark on the Masters.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some old faces, putting the jersey on again and hopefully getting a few goals,” said Payton, who scored 69 league goals in 156 appearances between 1998 and 2003.

“There are quite a lot of fans who will be going to watch, and after Oldham won it in their first year last year, I’d like to think we could try to do the same.

“It seems to be the team that’s kept themselves the fittest does the best so hopefully we’ll do okay.

“When you get over 40 things start slowing down whether you like it or not, but I think the lads will be in good shape.”
