IT was the day of the comebacks in the Burnley Summer Football League.

In what turned out to be the game of the day in the Red League, Burnley Wood Casuals stormed to a 3-0 lead before Accrington Abbey hit back in style to race to a 5-3 lead.

But in one last twist, Burnley scored twice in the final five minutes to seal a dramatic 5-5 draw, with Simpson scoring four times for the Casuals.

Hapton looked dead and buried in their clash with BGSOB as they trailed 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining.

But two goals from winger Chris Landon earned them a share of the spoils.

There were similar dramatic scenes in the Blue League where it looked odds on that Padiham Town were going to surrender their two and a half year unbeaten record.

But two goals from Joseph Taylor put them back in it, before Gareth Entwistle's equaliser sparked scenes of relief and celebration among the Padiham players.

Those draws allowed both league leaders to increase the gap at the top. Prairie United beat Ighten Leigh 7-1 in the Red League, while George IV maintained their 100 per cent record against Michelin, recording a 4-1 win.
