CHARLES Otigbah celebrated the start of Wimbledon by lifting the men’s singles title at the Slazenger East Lancashire Tennis League finals.

The Crosshill player edged out Danny Cameron of Feniscowles in three tight sets to win the tournament at Burnley Tennis Club.

Cameron won the first set, 7-6 in a tie-break, but Otigbah hit back, taking the next 6-4.

In the decider, Otigbah just got the better of his younger opponent, winning the set 6-4 to take the prestigious title.

The ladies singles tournament was more one-sided as Liz McCrae of Feniscowles overwhelmed Clith-eroe’s Emma Calvert 6-0 6-1.

McCrae never looked in trouble as her opponent managed to hold her serve once in the match.

In the doubles final, Neil Gibson and Richard Taylor won a three-setter in a thrilling match against Iain Taylor and Paul Barlow of Burnley.

Gibson and Taylor took the first set 7-6 on a tie-break. Their opponents responded with a 7-5 second set win.

And in the decider, the Feniscowles pair just kept their noses in front to take the set 6-4.

Blackburn Northern celebrated the ladies double title as Linda Huntingdon and Liz Maskell beat Susan Brown and Jo Heywood of Burnley 6-4 6-4.

And Maskell was on the winning side in the mixed doubles in one of the best clashes of the tournement.

Teaming up with Blackburn team-mate Ian Broughton, they fought back from 4-0 down in the final set to beat Iain Taylor and Elaine Varcoe 6-4 to claim the trophy.

In the juniors, Elliot Bryon (Parkwood) beat Joel Hernon 6-0 6-0 in the Boys U14 final.

Bethany Bolton (Parkwood) beat club-mate Anna Ainsworth 6-2 6-3 in the Girls final.

In the U16 section, Tim Bonham (Parkwood) saw off Joe Bentley 6-1 6-0, while Vicky Haworth (Whalley) won the combined U16 and U18 title.
