BURNLEY College’s football academy teams have won their respective British College’s Sport North West League for the second year in a row.

In the North West League, the boy’s first team clinched the title without losing a game, winning seven and drawing one and conceding just three goals along the way.

Not to be outdone, the girls won 11 of their 12 games, netting a total of 70 goals.

Brad Pates, Burnley College Sports lecturer, said the success of the two sides was down to hard work and commitment.

“The players have shown a lot of commitment and team spirit all season and deserve their success,” said Pates. “To win the leagues two years in a row is a fantastic achievement and we look forward to continuing this success next season.”

Following the success of Burnley College’s Centre for Football Development, a range of new sport academies will be launched at its new £81m campus this September.

Basketball, golf, cricket and netball will be covered by the new academies, with applicants who are successful in trials receiving professional coaching alongside their academic studies. They will also be able to access financial support towards training, competitions and associated costs.
