Andre Ooijer starred for Holland as Scotland were outclassed in Amsterdam on Saturday night.
The Blackburn Rovers defender helped shut out the Scots as the Dutch strolled to a 3-0 win in the World Cup qualifyer - but the win was shrouded in controversy.
Scotland boss George Burley was fuming with several refereeing decisions, especially one that saw a Steven Caldwell ‘goal’ ruled out.
“It was a poor decision,” said Burley. “If we get the goal that would have spurred us on at 2-1 and you don’t know what’s going to happen.”
But in truth, Holland coasted home to extend their run of successive World Cup qualifying victories to 17 with goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Robin van Persie before the break and a penalty kick from Dirk Kuyt.
Rovers’ midfielder Keith Andrews played the full 90 minutes for the Republic of Ireland but suffered as they threw away a lead in the Croke Park draw with Bulgaria.
A win for the Republic in the Group Eight clash would effectively turned the group into a two-horse race between Giovanni Trapattoni’s men and his native Italy, although they still have a seven-point lead over third-placed Bulgaria.
There was pain for Zurab Khizanishvili as his Georgia side were beat 2-1 by fellow Group Eight strugglers Cyprus.
The defeat saw Georgia fall below Montenegro to the bottom of the group with two points from six games.
Meanwhile, Aaron Mokoena claimed the bragging rights over Ewood team-mate Morten-Gamst Pedersen as the pair went head-to-head on Saturday.
Despite Pedersen scoring for Norway in the annual Nelson Mandela Challenge match against South Africa, Mokoena’s men came out on top thanks to a 2-1 win with the winning goal coming in the second minute of stoppage time.
Matt Derbyshire, who is on loan at Greek side Olympiakos, scored twice for England Under-21s while Alan Judge also got on the scoresheet in the 5-0 stroll over Norway.
And Rovers star Keith Treacy fears his international career could be over as a result of his row with Ireland Under-21 boss Don Givens.
Treacy has been frozen out since failing to report for a friendly against Lithuania in October.
