IAN THOMPSON and Maureen Board have been officially unveiled as the new captains at Mytton Fold Golf Club.

The duo celebrated their new status at last weekend’s Captain and Lady Captain Drive-Ins at the Langho course.

On Saturday the captain drove off in the sunshine, which quickly turned to rain, but spirits were high.

Winners Jim Hindle and Kevin Shanley shot 44 points in a fourball, better ball competition, two ahead of Mick Kelbie and Cliff Sweeney. Third, also on 42 points, were Alan Moorby and Peter Kiddie.

New captain Thompson was in the prize money, with a two on the par three ninth, sharing the prize fund with Ted Bamborough, who shot his two on the first hole.

On Sunday, the Lady Captain’s Drive-In was greeted by a cold and blustery start, which developed into a hailstorm. Undeterred, the hardy Mytton ladies continued to achieve some excellent scores in the challenging conditions with winner Doreen Hammond scoring 34 points, five clear of Jean Sanderson in second with new lady captain Board third with 24 points.

The start of the season means the end of the Pro’s Winter Series, with long-time leader Chris Czyzyk winning with 54 points. Second was Mick Walsh with 38 points, just two ahead of Dave Bolton in third.
