MICK Taylor is gearing up for the biggest match of his life when he competes in the final stages of the John Smith’s People Darts today.
The Burnley darter travels to the Lakeside at Frimley Green where he will represent the North West against seven other regional winners.
Quarter final and semi finals take place today with the final taking place ahead of the BDO World Darts Championship in front a capacity crowd and a live television audience.
And the 40-year-old has had the perfect preparation for his chance of a lifetime after receiving some special tips from the current BDO champion Mark Webster.
Webby, who is Taylor’s ‘mentor’ for the competition, popped along to the Stanley Street Club in Accrington.
“At the moment I am eating, sleeping, and playing darts,” said Taylor.
“The practice session I had with Mark Webster was also a great help and to represent the North West at the tournament will be a very proud moment.”
He added: “I am really excited about the prospect of playing on the main stage at the Lakeside.
"The tournament so far has been brilliant and I hope I can put the icing on the cake with a victory in front of the crowd and television cameras.”
If Taylor, who will compete under the name of Mickey T, becomes the first ever John Smith’s People’s Darts Champion given the extraordinary chance to compete with the best in the sport at the Torremolinos Open as well as two other UK based BDO Darts events in 2009.
Additionally, Taylor will also win a further £14,000 for the charity of his choice, MacMillan Nurses.
