CHRIS Pettigrew has started work as a multi sports coach with Blackburn Rovers’ Community Trust - almost 14 years to the day since his dad gave up a prestigious position in Kenny Dalglish’s backroom team.
Chris, a mad-keen Rovers supporter, recently landed a dream job at the Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre (BRIC).
It means the 24-year-old is following in the footsteps of his father, Mike, who was the first-team physio at the club during the ‘King Kenny’ era in the early 1990s.
Chris said: “I’m really excited to be working here, not just because I’m a Rovers fan but because of my dad’s connections with the club.
“When I was a kid I used to come down to the BRIC to see my dad and meet all the players, so it’s a bit strange that I’ve now got a job here myself!”
Don Mackay brought Mike to Rovers in 1991 and he ended up spending three years as the club’s first-team physio, before quitting to set up his own practice midway through the title-winning season of 1994/95.
“I’ve got some great memories of my time at Rovers,” said Mike, who was largely responsible for nursing Alan Shearer back to full fitness after the striker underwent an operation to repair a career-threatening cruciate knee ligament injury midway through his first season with the club.
