CLITHEROE travel to Curzon Ashton in UniBond First Division North tonight looking for their first win in seven away games after Saturday’s defeat at Wakefield.
After a low tempo start to the game, Clitheroe took the lead in Yorkshire when Carl Lomax took advantage of space in the Wakefield defence to fire home from 15 yards in the 37th minute.
But they lost former Accrington Stanley defender Jonathon Smith to a red card for violent conduct on the stroke of half time and Wakefield equalised five minutes after the interval through Marc Roberts.
Clitheroe goalkeeper Martin Fearon then had to superbly tip a Wes Milnes header around the post before the hosts went in front in the 73rd minute as Jay Sobers found the net from 12 yards.
Former Burnley player Joel Pilkington, whose only appearance for the Clarets came in a Carling Cup tie against Tottenham, did put Clitheroe back on level terms with eight minutes to go after finding space on the edge of the area but Matty Wears wrong-footed Fearon from six yards to grab an 87th-minute winner for Wakfield.
