NELSON’S home troubles continued with a 3-1 reverse at the hands of Ramsbottom United in the Vodkat Premier Division.

Nelson have now gone 11 games without a win and again did plenty of attacking but rarely looked like putting the ball in the net.

Sam Heap had a goal ruled out after just four minutes when the referee spotted an offence as the Nelson striker forced the ball home in a crowded goalmouth.

But after 15 minutes Craig Buckley drove a 25-yard free kick past the defensive wall and just inside the Nelson post to give Ramsbottom a shock lead.

The Blues equalised three minutes later when Damian Ross lost his footing when trying to collect a back-pass and Sean Thompson had the easiest of chances to knock the ball into the net for Nelson’s equaliser.

But Jon Stevenson fired in a low shot to put the visitors ahead in the 34th minute.

On the hour, a Ramsbottom free kick was played into the goalmouth and players from both sides had to be restrained in the ensuing scramble.

Billy Carrington and Stevenson were both sent off, although Ramsbottom officials later claimed that the referee had sent off the wrong player in a case of mistaken identity.

Ramsbottom had the final word when Andy Sensale picked up a loose ball in the last minute of the game and found the net with a curling effort.
