ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman is used to overcoming problems in his current job.
Having to juggle players on a shoestring budget while attempting to keep Stanley in League Two isn’t easy.
And with Terry Gornell having been recalled early by Tranmere on Monday following an impressive stint at the Fraser Eagle Stadium, which yielded three goals in seven appearances, Coleman has had to move quickly as he looks to cook up a recipe for success as they prepare to face Bury in tomorrow’s Lancashire derby.
He has drafted in Darlington striker Gregg Blundell and winger Craig Mahon from Wigan, the nephew of Burnley star Alan, but Coleman admitted losing Gornell had come as a blow.
He said: “We thought we were going to have him (Gornell) here for another two or three weeks, but we’ll have to do without him. The art of managing at this level is overcoming obstacles.
“But he’s got back into the Tranmere first team so we can’t complain too much and I hope he does really well.
“We’re hoping we can bring him back in January but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
“He’s a nice lad and a good pro and, for his own career, I’d hope he can do well at Tranmere and blossom. From a selfish point of view, I’d like to have him back with us but not to the detriment of his career.
“I know the lad enjoyed his time here and I know we developed him a little bit playing first-team football.
“I think that’s gone hand-in-hand with how we’ve played in the last month. Terry slotted into our system well and struck up a partnership with Paul Mullin and we’ve helped to develop his game and hopefully he will continue to do that.
“But we have options. We’ve got Jamie Clarke as well, who has been champing at the bit, so he’s an option. We’ve also got Gregg Blundell and Craig Mahon coming in.
“We’re not short of options, it’s just up to us to pick the right one.”
But the Reds have been in a decent run of form of late and go into the game against the Shakers with just one defeat in the last seven league games.
And Coleman is calling on his players to continue in the same vein in the only League Two game being played this weekend, after the game was pushed back from Tuesday night as both sides are out of this season’s FA Cup.
He added: “We can move up a couple of places in League Two so we’ll have to try our best and win the game.
“They had a great start and they’ve got some good players. Obviously (Andy) Bishop’s the pick of the bunch. But they’ve got some good players and I’ve watched them already this season so I know what they’re about.
“Both teams will try and win the game, that’s for sure.
“They had a 4-0 win (Over Gillingham) last weekend so they will be looking to attack us some it should be an open game.”
